Network design (Project 7)

A small office network designed and tested in Cisco Packet Tracer: three routers, several switches, VLANs, and DNS, DHCP and FTP servers.

  • Planned the links in a table: which port connects to which device, and which VLAN or purpose each link has.
  • Split the network into VLANs 106, 206, 306, 406 and 506. Trunk links carry several VLANs between a router and its switches.
  • Placed a DNS server, a DHCP server and an FTP server, plus a laptop, a smartphone, PCs and a wireless access point.
  • Tested the network with pings between devices and wrote down which devices could reach which. The last fix was making the smartphone resolve the FTP server's name through DNS.
